Ex employee visits 80 years later

We had an unexpected visit from an ex employee on his Birthday. Bill Mepham was 96 on the 16th March 2006. He worked with Jempsons when it was run by Arthur Jempson. We understand he was 16 (1926) in this photo (foot on running board) and left us when he was called up to serve in World War II. This Thornycroft was loaded up with 55 hop pockets weighing 2.25cwt each. With solid rubber wheels a 60 mile journey from Rye to a brewery warehouse in London Docklands would have taken the best part of 6 hours.

Bill recalls, having to collect bodies on our vehicles when Rye had a life boat disaster. He also recalls travelling up River Hill in Sevenoaks with hop pockets when the vehicle tipped backwards lifting the front wheels off the ground
